We are unique in that both our veterinarian (who is deaf and uses a cochlear implant) and our business manager (who is hearing impaired and legally blind) have disabilities so we have first-hand experience with dealing with clients and pets with special needs.
Dr. Limberg-Child was brought up in a family of public educators, and from those roots has developed a strong belief in the value of ongoing education. Staff members meet regularly as a group to keep abreast of new trends in veterinary care to be best able to serve our clients.
We host Vetquest, a veterinary science 4H club, that offers youth from ages 12 to 19 years opportunities to learn more about animal health care.
Our facility is available to groups such as scout troops for tours and mini-seminars on a variety of subjects. As well, we have an extensive browsing library that can be made available to students for research projects.
We sponsor externships for Baker College’s veterinary technician program as well as hosting students through East China School District’s work-based learning program.
And because we believe that every pet deserves an education as well, we will be hosting basic obedience classes and puppy socialization sessions.
Dr. Robyn Limberg-Child is a life-long resident of St. Clair County, growing up in Port Huron and St. Clair and graduating from St. Clair High School in 1982. As a result of illness, she became deaf in 1987 and holds the distinction of being the first deaf student to graduate from Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. A cochlear implant hearing device enables her to communicate readily with most people and to use a special amplified stethoscope. Outside of the clinic, she is involved in 4H as a parent, a leader and sometimes as a judge, and is active in the life of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Port Huron. She is also a “theatre mom” and helps with stage productions of St. Clair High School Theatre Troupe. She is married to Bob Child, also a St. Clair native who is our practice business manager.
Bob Child is a graduate of Western Michigan University and when not working on clinic business, he also has a day job as web manager for St. Clair County. He is responsible for keeping the practice running smoothly, being sure bills are paid and accounts are kept current, and taking care of all the legal necessities of owning a business. In his spare time, he is involved with guitars—building them and playing them!
